Representation in the United States
I am pleased to announce that Heather Gaudio Fine Art has become a representation of Maya Makino in the United States.
Heather Gaudio Fine Art is a contemporary art gallery located in New Canaan, Connecticut. I am honored to have such an opportunity as a base for my work in the U.S., and very happy that it will be presented in the country which has been at my aim for so long. Thoughts on Thursday
この一年で私の活動範囲は世界に広がり、自身の目指してきたことが実を結び始めている。
積み上げてきたものがしっかりとした地盤となって、それを認めてくれる人々に出会える機会が増えた。

決して華やかなデビューではなかったが、腐らずに継続してきて良かったと思える日々が続くと、肉体的に疲労を感じることがあっても、心はとても満たされていることを実感する。
海外の方と話していると、アーティストという職業にとてもリスペクトを持って接してくれていることがわかる。
語学が堪能なレベルには到達していないが、母語である日本語で日本人と話している時よりも自然にコミュニケーションをとれることが不思議だ。
それはお互いがお互いをリスペクトしあっていて、それぞれの考え方を尊重しているということがベースにあった上でのコミュニケーションであるからだと感じる。
あくまで「個」であり、立場の違いはあれど人としての優劣・上下（マウント）を決めつけられないから気持ちが楽なのである。
どこかに所属しているからとか、お偉いセンセイに評価されているからなどの前に、アーティスト自身をしっかり見つめてくれている。
実力主義である。
日本で生きているとアーティストという職業が認められない、または、批判されることがままある。
出る杭は打たれる。
これまでもそういった扱いを受けたことは何度もあった。
縦社会や男尊女卑が根強く残るこの国では、「個」同士が対等に話をするのは困難である場合がある。
キャリアを積んできてさえ「金にもならん絵を描いている。」と嘲笑されたこともあるし、理不尽な要求なども受けたことがある。
そういう場面に遭遇すると、日本語同士なのになぜ話が通じないのだろうと首をかしげるばかりであった。
海外の方々に対しては、仕事に関してだけでなく、自身のコンプレックスを解消してくれたことについても感謝したい。
今まで私は身長が170cmであることがとても嫌だったが、このくらいの身長の女性は世界中にはたくさんいる。
むしろ低いこともあるくらいだ。
信じられないことだが、あれほど長身であることが嫌だったものが、今ではもう少し高くても良かったかも、と思えるほど自分を受け入れることができた。
そして、とあるアーティストからこのように言われた。
「女性が女性であること。愛することを知っている女性。知的な人。自分が自分であることを愛している女性。」
これをきっかけとして、私自身の立ち位置や居場所というものを認識することができた。
私が私であること、それで充分だということである。
現在イギリスでのグループ展に参加しており、間も無く韓国でのグループ展が始まる。
ありがたいことにこの先2024年までスケジュールが埋まり始めている。
多忙を極めるが、走り続けたいと思う。

I have created a new account on Instagram for showcase Leading/Emerging contemporary artists.
When I am confronted with art, particularly attracted by works have a sense of uncertainty and uniqueness.
Uncertainty means an artist's eyes trying to capture the elusive. Transparent, clear, translucent, motion, reflection, moment, flash. Reality or unreality. Actual situation or phenomenon. Fact or fantasy. To touch or not to touch. Visible or invisible, Fiction or non-fiction, and etc. Moving back and forth between them, the artists themselves are desperately trying to capture what they are seeing and feeling. The resulting visualized art appears in front of our eyes as works that only these artists can express. It is something that can never be expressed only in a literal translation of an imagined.
I would be happy if you could visit the new account, and hope you enjoy these wonderfully talented artists and their works.

私が芸術を前にした時、特に不確実性と唯一性を感じる作品に惹かれます。
不確実性とは、捉えどころのないものを捉えようとするアーティストの眼差しのことです。
透けている、透明、半透明、動き、反射、瞬間、閃き。
現実か非現実か。実態か現象か。事実か想像か。触れるか触れないか。見えるか見えないか、フィクションかノンフィクションか、など。
それらの間を行ったり来たりしながら、作家自身が自分で見ているもの、感じていることを必死で捉えようとしている。
その結果視覚化された芸術は、彼らにしか表現できない作品として、私たちの目の前に現れます。
それは決してイメージの直訳だけでは表現できないことです。
